Professor Eric Masanet and researchers from Lawrence Berkeley National Lab have developed a computer model to assess the energy consumption of cloud computing to determine whether it is more sustainable than traditional local computing services.

Undergrad team win grand prize in the Dow Sustainability Challenge
A team of undergraduates including chemical engineer, Michael Narea, were grand prize winners in the Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge for their proposal to optimize biodigester technology for the food and beverage industry in order to bring distributed, carbon-neutral biomass energy to the urban setting.
Fengqi You wins NU-Argonne Early Career Award
Professor Fengqi You has received the 2013 Northwestern-Argonne Early Career Investigator Award for Energy Research to investigate the design and optimization of processes and supply chains for advanced “drop-in” hydrocarbon biofuels.
