The Chemical and Biological Engineering Program ONLY admits degree-seeking students for the Fall Quarter - please do not apply for any other quarter.
Applicants to the program for the Fall 2013 quarter may apply online through Apply Yourself starting on September 3, 2012. Please be sure to wait until after this date to start your application to avoid being charged two application fees.
Materials Submitted Online
Applications to Northwestern University's Graduate School, and by extension to this department, must be submitted electronically. In addition, all fees must be submitted electronically - no checks will be accepted.
- Online Application. Be sure to indicate the highest degree you are seeking from Northwestern University.

- One (1) Statement of Purpose
- Two (2) letters of recommendations. If you submit your letters of recommendation online, you do not need to submit paper copies to the department. We will accept additional recommendation letters.
- One (1) copy of current Resume or Curriculum Vitae
All supplmental materials must be submitted electronically.

*International students who have received, or will have a degree conferred prior to admission at Northwestern, an undergraduate or graduate degree at an English-speaking institution may waive the TOEFL requirement. Please contact the Graduate School admissions office if either of these conditions apply.

To check on the status of your application materials, you may visit the McCormick Graduate Admissions Tracking System (GATS). Use the application number provided to you by the Apply Yourself application system (NOT your PIN) and the email address you used in your application.
You may only check on your application materials after you submit your online application via Apply Yourself. You are not in the GATS system until you submit your application. Please give the materials enough time to be processed in the system as there is not an immediate turn around. If you have any questions about the status displayed on GATS, please only contact the Graduate Program Assistant.
An application can be completed online and submitted electronically once you have answered all required questions. You do not have to complete the online application in one sitting--you may access your application and change your answers as many times as you like with your PIN and password from any computer with Internet access. To navigate through the system, please use the navigational bar located at the top of your screen on the online application.
Once you have completed the application forms to your satisfaction, you should submit your application by accessing the "Check Application/Submit" section of your online application. This will electronically submit your application to the Graduate School. Please note that you can submit your application only once and that once submitted, you will not be able to make changes to your application information using the online application system. After you have completed all of the appropriate questions and you are ready to submit your application, click on the "Submit Application" button.
You will be taken to the Payment screen where you will be given instructions for paying your application fee. Only after you have completed the payment screen will your application be submitted directly to the admissions office. If you find that you need to edit information you have submitted to the Graduate School, please call the admissions office so that they may update your file.
If you are not ready to submit your application now, your information will be saved under your PIN and password for a period of twelve months. You may come back, edit and submit at any time during the twelve month period.
