Technology Evolution to Sustainably Meet Future Energy Needs
Societal concerns about global warming and energy security are causing far reaching changes in energy policy. As a technology provider to the energy industry, UOP is at the forefront of developing renewable fuels and technologies for CO2 mitigation. UOP is working with customers and partners in academia and government to bring these new technologies to commercial practice and demonstrate the resulting economic and environmental benefits. This lecture surveys some of the possible technological responses to the challenge of global warming and shows how UOP chemists and engineers are attempting to develop economically viable solutions. No single solution exists, so a portfolio of technologies is under development for conservation, CO2 capture, and CO2 conversion. The lecture also addresses new UOP renewable energy and chemicals business strategies and probes some of the opportunities and technical hurdles around CO2 reuse.
